Soon the mother decided again to return to the streets taking a sad little boy with her. Our workers searched for her and met comrades of hers on the street. They said that Makara was being abused and hit by his mother who was often drunk and cruel. Our hearts hurt for this poor little innocent child but there was nothing we could do.
Then one day as the hospital visitors came to Preah Khet Melea hospital who should come running up to them but Makara! “My Mom died.” he stated matter of factly Sokhan, director of Rescue lost no time in following up this story and making sure Makara could return to Place of Rescue. It was a happy little boy who joined the other orphans there. We are sad for this mother who because of her poor choices died of AIDS but she has left behind a priceless treasure. Her beautiful little boy is also infected with the HIV virus but is on anti-viral drugs and we have good hopes for his future.
